Domain name search and registration

Check that the domain name you want is still available, and then grab it! Save money by registering 5 or 10 years at a time.

We offer all of the following domain name extensions:
.COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, .INFO, .BZ, .CC, .US, .NU, .WS, .TV

Some of these domain name extensions have specific requirements. For more information about these domain name extensions, click here.

Here are the steps involved in registering your domain name:

  • The first thing to do to register a domain is to choose a good domain name. The first thing that you should know (most people don't, though) is that you are not limited to just one domain name! Most web hosting services (such as Host Your Site) allow you to set up several domain names so that when they any is typed in, the same website comes up.

This is particularly good when your company name (say, Look Great Now!) does not include your primary products or your marketing niche (say, skin care and cosmetics). Rather than compromising, you can try to get both lookgreatnow.com AND greatskincare.com . (Whether they are still available is another matter! The more competitive your marketing niche, the faster the domain names are going.) The former
choosing a domain name based on your company name or the name of your product line works much better for branding: on your business cards, magazine ads, and in offline marketing in general The latter choosing a domain name based on your product type or marketing niche works much better for search engine promotion, because many of the major search engines give better listings to sites whose domain names contain the keywords people are typing into the search engines.

You can try out ideas for domain names by entering them in the text box on the first page of domain registration. If the domain name is available, it will be displayed, along with similar domain names that are available. Choose one and you are ready to go onto the next step. If the domain name isn't available, a message will come up letting you know.

  • After you've chosen the domain names you want to register, it is time to log in. If you don't have an account, you can create one at this step. Otherwise, use your existing login to continue to process.

  • The next step will be to choose a term of registration. For .com, .net, and .org names, you can choose to register for 1, 2, 5, or 10 years. (The options for other domain name extensions vary.) The price for each option is displayed next to the term.

  • If you've just created a new account, you will be prompted to enter the account ownership information. This is in the event that you lose your password, in which case the system can identify you and help you get your password changed. If you've registered before, then you'll be taken to the domain contact screen. This information is required to be associated with your domain name. If you have defaults for contacts then the information will be automatically filled in for you. (You can then edit it if you choose.) After you've finished entering this information, you maybe proceed to the next step. You change this information later if needed.

  • Now you'll be prompted to enter the name servers for your domains. These servers must be registered with the registry and be active. You can change these later.

  • The last step involves entering billing information. Make sure to enter a valid credit card number and expiration date. Please confirm all information on last page. This page is your invoice and should be kept for future reference.

Domain name registration renewal   Already got a domain name through us? Renewal is easy: just log in to your account. Forgot your password? No problem!

Account management

Our Account Manager allows you to manage the settings for your account and any of the domains you own. This makes owning lots of domain names a snap! To create a new account or go to your existing account, click here. Make sure when creating a new account, to choose an account name that others are not likely to have used already. (If you happen to choose a name already in use, you'll be asked to choose another name.)

  • Add services like email forwarding, URL forwarding, or DNS management to your domain names

  • Update Name Server information for your domain names and your account

  • Update contact information for your domain names or your account

  • Monitor the status of domain names that you are transferring

Don't forget to log out (from the Index page) when you are done using your Account Manager!

Note: As part of domain name management, you are required to submit and keep current the following information. This information must be current, complete and accurate.

  • Your name and postal address (or if different, that of the domain name holder);
  • The name, postal address, e-mail address, voice telephone number, and where available, fax number of the administrative contact for each domain name in your account; and

Domain name spinner   Can't find an available domain name of your liking? Use our Namespin tool to generate some available domain names for you! Namespin takes in 2 or 3 word suggestions and finds all available domains containing combinations of those words.

Transfer a domain name

Already got a domain name (.COM, .NET, or .ORG), but want to take advantage of our cheaper rates? You can transfer your domain name from your current registrar to us through this service. The only stipulation is that you can not transfer a domain that was registered less than 60 days ago. When you transfer a domain, an extra year will be added on to it's existing expiration date.

We'll add an extra incentive to transfer to us,
beyond our already low prices:
$5 MORE OFF THE COST OF YOUR FIRST YEAR!

That's right: At $20 per year, we're already saving you $15 per year over Verisign (Network Solutions). Transfer your domain name to us now, and we'll give you your first year with us for $15. That's $20 off of Verisign's price! How low can you go?

A few additional notes:

  • Domain names must already be registered with another registrar and must be valid domain names.

  • Transfers will succeed only if the administrative contact information showing in the losing registrar's Whois is up to date.

  • Not all domain name functionalities will transfer. For example, another registrar may offer 5 MB free Web hosting, free URL forwarding, etc. These services will not transfer.

  • Some domain name functionalities that transfer will not do so automatically. These services will have to be re-configured by the client through our account management system.

  • Only .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ, and .INFO domain names can currently be transferred. .US and other ccTLDs will be included at a later date.

  • Transferring .BIZ or .INFO domain names. requires an authorization code provided by your current registrar.

  • Under normal circumstances, transfers will take between 5 and 7 days to complete. If the losing registrar refuses to acknowledge a transfer request for any reason, the transfer may take longer to complete.

Expired domains

A lot of great domain names (over 12 million) that were previously owned by someone else are now available again. Often this is because their previous registrants forgot to renew their registration. Use our Expired Domains tool to find a great name! Enter a word that you'd like the newly available domain name to contain, and our Expired Domains search program will return all newly available domain names containing this word.

Email forwarding

With our email forwarding service, you will be able to create e-mail addresses for your domains and forward them to any other valid e-mail address. You can also add a "catch all" address -- any mail sent to your domain that does not correspond to any of the valid e-mail addresses you have set up will automatically be sent to a "catch all" e-mail address of your choice.

Email forwarding is an additional service you can select when you register a new domain name with us. Or, you can add it later by logging into to your account.

NOTE: In order for email forwarding to work, the nameservers for your domain name must be set to NS1.NAMERESOLVE.COM and NS2.NAMERESOLVE.COM.

URL forwarding

An URL (Unique Resource Locator) is just a technical term for a web address.

Our URL forwarding service is perfect for people who want to redirect their domain to another URL which is too long or too hard to remember. You can use our URL forwarding services to forward your domain to any URL that you would like. The true URL of the website will not appear in the address bar of a user's browser and the domain name being forwarded will appear in its place.

URL forwarding is an additional service you can select when you register a new domain name with us. Or, you can add it later by logging into to your account.

NOTE: In order for URL forwarding to work, the nameservers for your domain name must be set to NS1.NAMERESOLVE.COM and NS2.NAMERESOLVE.COM.

DNS management   Our web-based DNS management allows you to use name servers located at our facilities for your domain. Using your Internet browser you can add, remove, and edit Alias records (Host records), MX records (Mail Server records), NS records (Name Server Records), and CNAME records. You have total control over the DNS records for your domain, without the hassle or cost of maintaining your own DNS server.

DNS management is an additional service you can select when you register a new domain name with us. Or, you can add it later by logging into to your account.

NOTE: In order for DNS management to work, the nameservers for your domain name must be set to NS1.NAMERESOLVE.COM and NS2.NAMERESOLVE.COM.

Multilingual domain name registration

Now you can register domain names using the characters or alphabets of other languages! over 40 languages supported, from Chinese to Welsh. This capability is still in "test mode". When functional, the name you create will work just like any English-character name in that you can enter it into your browser and be taken to the corresponding website.

The native language domain name will be followed by .com, .net or .org . Initially, your name will be reserved (parked) until sometime in the future, when VeriSign Global Registry Services is able to match your new name with the website's location (this is known as "name resolution").

Future web browsers (and other network client software) will "RACE encode" these domain names before the DNS request is made. A DNS server will only see the RACE encoded form of a domain name.
For example a Danish web address would be translated into . Note: Only segments (between dots) that contain international characters are encoded.

To convert your international domain name, use the online tool at: http://mct.verisign-grs.com .
